How do you keep water hot in a vacuum flask

Aug 19, 2023

A vacuum flask, also known as a thermos or insulated bottle, is designed to keep liquids hot or cold for an extended period by utilizing several key principles of heat transfer and insulation. Here's how a vacuum flask keeps water hot:

Double-Walled Construction: A vacuum flask consists of two layers of materials (usually stainless steel) that are separated by a vacuum or a layer of insulating material. This double-walled construction helps minimize the transfer of heat between the liquid inside and the external environment.

Vacuum Insulation: The vacuum or insulating layer between the inner and outer walls of the flask creates a near-complete absence of air, which significantly reduces heat transfer through conduction and convection. In a vacuum, there are no particles to carry heat, making it an excellent insulator.

Radiation Reflection: The inner surface of the innermost wall is coated with a reflective material, often a thin layer of metal. This reflective coating helps prevent heat transfer through radiation by reflecting the radiant heat back into the liquid, rather than allowing it to escape.

Sealed Cap: The cap of a vacuum flask is designed to be airtight. This prevents the exchange of air between the inside and outside of the flask, minimizing heat transfer through conduction and convection. The cap also usually includes an insulating layer to further enhance heat retention.

Minimized Heat Transfer: The combination of these factors—double-walled construction, vacuum insulation, radiation reflection, and a sealed cap—creates an environment where heat transfer is minimized. Heat cannot easily escape from the liquid inside the flask to the outside environment, and vice versa.

In essence, the vacuum flask creates a highly insulated barrier that prevents heat from escaping the liquid inside. This insulation effectively slows down the rate of heat loss, allowing the liquid to maintain its temperature for a longer period.

It's important to note that while a vacuum flask is effective at retaining heat, it's not perfect and will gradually lose heat over time. The efficiency of a vacuum flask depends on factors such as the quality of insulation, the initial temperature of the liquid, and the external temperature. but REVOMAX vacuum flask can do that keep cold for 36 hours and keep hot for 18 hours, open/close with one hand in one second.
